我只有一点不同意Anderson，就是晚上吃东西
最近研究表明，至少要给身体10-12小时的fasting时间，否则长肉！
另外，心理上的改变只是减肥的开始，后来的饮食和运动增肌就有各家学派，因人而异了
祝大家减肥愉快，减肥成功！
作者William Anderson是个心理医生，在他二十五岁300磅左右的时候发明了这个
Anderson疗法，减了140磅，然后一直保持了二十多年至今。
有这样几个重点：
1. Mind会直接影响到body.比如抑郁症、疾病不治自愈等。在weight control方面，要
用mind 的conditioning 功能--"We are driven by repulsion, as well as desire
and craving. Conditioning is the primal power source...drives you to repeat
behavior that feels good, even if you wanted to stop".

从历史上看，Sloan小而精，里面的PI很多都是相当当的。MD Anderson 大而杂，里面
有不错的，也有很多一般的。
MD Anderson的clinic方面自然是没话说，值得注意的是，Ron DePinho作头头以后，它
的基础研究已经得到，并且会继续得到，极大地提高，因为跟以前的头不一样，
DePinho自己就是一个great basic scientist (其他有些争议的方面这里不谈）。加上
MD Anderson经营一直不错，德州经济好，Jim Allison的加盟也是催化剂（我认为他今
年有可能拿诺奖）。所以正如上面所说，近几年招的人，至少文章都很强。
我认为MD Anderson面临的问题是，怎么样让自己培养的PI在basic cancer research方
面多做出相当当的，领域里公认的突破性的大发现。MDAnderson并不缺少发大文章的人
，但缺少上面这类人（比如Jim Allison自己就是这种类型。纵观他的整个career,CNS
并不多，但一篇immonotherapy的大文章加上长期的后续工作奠定了诺奖级别的贡献，

发帖数: 153 | 8 二饼建议我把MD Anderson和Sloan一起写，试了试还是单独写顺手些。都写完了再写一
个横向比较吧。
MD Anderson和Sloan-Kettering作为两个美国最大的相对独立的肿瘤研究所，在肿瘤领
域的规模和地位是其他肿瘤研究所不能比的。在过去的两个decades期间，两个研究所
一直占据US News排名的前两位而且远远超越其他研究所。Sloan过去排第一的时候多，
但是这几年被MD Anderson超了过去，而且大有被MD Anderson越拉越远之势。MD
Anderson地处Houston，具有地大物广之优势，MD Anderson发展的确迅猛。
Interview process: 跟大多数面试一样，先是PD介绍，然后是两个fellow介绍自己的
研究projects，然后是faculty面试，午饭、tour等。值得一提的是一是他们的speed
dating，像走马灯似的，见了8个人，每人15-20分钟。另外是问题有些新奇，MD
Anderson的面试安排得比较晚，自以为啥风浪都见过了，应该没啥新鲜问题了，结果第

我们的保险是United Healthcare Choice Plus。家里都没多少钱。
我打电话问了，也自己查了， MD Anderson是保险公司的in-network provider.
保险公司的coverage是100% for in-network, $200 deductible, maximum payment $
250,000。
打了电话问United Healthcare和MD Anderson，都不能说出自己要出多少钱。
想请问一下大家，如果去MD Anderson治疗，包括化疗，手术，放疗，所有的费用，在

Science, as the sole finalist for the presidency of the UT MD Anderson

指的是可以招博士生的正式的faculty吗?
我最近看到一个人在印度读的硕士博士博士后，简历里面连本科都没写。然后来美国辗
转一个地方做了好几年年薄厚，然后md anderson 做了5年instructor。接着又做了4年
assistant professor。。。文章也不怎么样。
而且在德州大学系统里，他的种族写的是american indian/alaska native。 他就是一
个印度人。觉得这人非常不靠谱。
在生物版有人说这只是non tenure track的.那这样title的人是不是相当于在大老板手
下的一个小老板，可能会帮着写grant，带一带博士生。或者只是一个高级博士后。。。
md anderson给这样的title好欺骗人啊。外面的人看到这样的简历，都以为是全国数一
数二的医疗研究中心的AP。 |

Upenn。因为有CPRIT的关系，MD Anderson给的startup多一些， Upenn的offer很中规
中矩，startup和MD Anderson相比较少了快三分之一。两边的学术环境差不多, 城市也
没有特别大的差别（对两个城市都比较无感...), 不知道大家会怎么选择？ |

upenn有这些一流辅助性的配置能平起平坐，做生物的，没有最好设备你出啥成果啊，
再聪明的博后也不灵啊
john Hopkins也是第一，但偏重理论基础， 第一，不差钱，第二，难promote，第三，
华人坐上去的很少，第四，这不是一所大学校大机构

首先恭喜一下牛人。
第二是，UPenn的钱不经使用，老鼠贵，学生贵，连停车费都贵，但是博士后比较容易
找到好的。MD Anderson钱比较多而且也经用，但是不是那么容易找到好的博士后愿意
去。
第三，MD Anderson据说有不少心态奇怪的人，去了那里要找合作的话要擦亮眼睛（据
说的啊！真实情况待考），UPenn里我认识的人大多都比较正常，互相之间合作也很多
。
最后，一般而言，去MD Anderson比较容易的中规中矩的拿个天牛，去UPenn更有可能成
为学术明星被其他学校挖走，但是UPenn拿不到天牛的人也大有人在。所以这个看你性
格如何，喜不喜欢赌一把。 |

pine wood)和vinyl，价钱一样。他们会不木头Seal一下，刷漆的话就要加钱了。在价
钱一样的情况下，木头窗户在室内感觉可能会好一点，但木头更容易腐朽。请有经验的
提供一下建议。
另外Anderson window两片玻璃中间用的是金属的Spacer，买vinyl窗户的用金属的
spacer不好。还有我在网上查不到Anderson 400 series 窗户的 U factor, 以及是否
加了Argon gas 和 反射涂层，请问哪儿可以找到这些具体信息? 多谢@ |

只比较Base salary 差的不是特别多，一个7万5 另一个8万多。但是工业界有bonus 以
及工业界经验对以后找工作很有用。Anderson好处是，Houston是俺家的dream city ，
对LD 找工作也有利。但听说Research Scientist和Postdoc 基本是换汤不换药。也还
有些想混工业界。
有什么建议呢？ |

vinyl；Great Lake Uniframe是全vinyl的窗户，据他们自己说是比较好的vinyl。
通常来说，木头窗户比vinyl更高了一个级别，材料和人工都比vinyl贵。木头窗户室内
木头的部分需要finish（刷primer、然后刷漆；或者stain、然后刷polyurethane），
contractor的报价是不包括finish的。 |

breast cancer很常见，只要不是很复杂的病情，methodist hospital也可以治疗嘛，
好歹是non-for profit的

面试时说美国毕业的PhD可以办H1b
但真正到小秘手上时却说只给办J1
然后跟老板交流了，老板说要follow rule
很犹豫要不要先opt过去工作先
现在满意的博后位置也不好找了
还是比较满意这个lab的
但又担心用了opt过去工作，自己就没有退路了
有MD Anderson的博后吗？那里的行情是都拿J1吗？

如果合作老板都是中国年轻的PI， 课题吸引力相同，看过去发表文章也在同个水平，
NIH的NCI好，还是Anderson好？
这两个地方对个人发展那个更好？ 大家能说说吗？
