Your body has a circadian rhythm (or so-called biologic clock in chinese).
This is a developing area of neuroscience. From what I understand, a part of
your hypothalamus (下丘脑) named suprachiasmic nucleus receives signal of
day vs night from your eye and projects information to pineal body (松果体,
another structure in brain), the latter of which then release melatonin, a
hormone that regulates circadian rhythm. This is why melatonin can be found

is basically an antihistamine that has a sedation side effect.
There is also melatonin, which is can correct circadian rhythm disturbance,
but may not work for people with normal circadian rhythm.
More effective sleeping pills are mostly benzodiazepines or derivatives.
They all require a prescription. |

Can he get at least 9 hours of sleep before waking up? If so, then there is

发帖数: 2992 | 26 其实不是的，是大概一个月。有的人长，有的短，即使只和月亮周期差一天，那不断积
累也就完全没有correlation可言了。
这个事情延伸开来，倒是挺有意思的。有一种说法是，人类本来不是在地球上进化出来
的。为啥呢？也是跟平地球理论差不多举了一堆证据，当然有些也有道理。比如人的
circadian rhythm，很接近24小时，但是如果把人关在黑暗中，其实是23还是25.所以
说人类是在另一个和地球自转周期差不多的星球进化来的。另外人眼睛盯着太阳看会刺
伤，地球上没有任何一种动物是这样。等等。
不过circadian rhythm我也研究过，也是人和人有差别，并且受年龄影响。所以这些理
论都比较牵强。 |

发帖数: 7030 | 32 这个我不太同意。如果按照果蝇/线虫遗传学的思路 就是拿鲍和筛选来彻底搞清一个
pathway 这个老鼠肯定不行，事实上在老鼠里做modifier screen的好像就没有什么人
。但是你完全可以换个思路，screen出来一个hit，只要有意思，大可以接着用biochem
,用genomics的方法把它的上下游找出来接着做。这个时候forward screen找出的那个
hit是最重要的，别的方法替代不了的。
还是原来举的例子。当年Joe Takahashi作mouse screen其实就做了一丁点，就找到了
clock mutant,然后从clock gene出发能找出整套circadian rhythm的mechanism，后面
这部分就不需要genetic screen了，看看啥东西和clock binding,啥东西受clock调控
，blabla,也可以做得很好。但是这个clock gene如果没有forward screen就不知道什
么时候能找出来（当然现在往回看的话，如果mouse people相信fly的结果，完全可以

1, Mature blood cell has a capacity for splicing, even without nucleus.
This is on a 2005 Science paper
2, Last year, people showed mature blood cell has some sort of circadian
rhythm, suggesting that circadian is not maintained at transcription level,
but post transcriptional level. Last year one Science paper.
So our current knowledge may not be enough to explain. |

你在第一帖里面提出的睡眠貌似是指生物体周期性停止活跃活动的一个表现。
如果你非要认为植物啊，病毒啊的那些circadian cycle 也算睡眠的话，
那么就必须扩大睡眠的定义。因为在那些circadian cycle里面，植物啊病毒啊
什么的，并没有停止活跃的活动。而且很多的那些cycle其实是为了适应环境的
变化才发生的，和你第一帖里面说的那个用“睡眠”以主动让出资源来就完全
不是一回事，因为根本就不是主动的。 |

1. Oudenaarden在我心目中是个天才级人物。最近同一时期发表一篇cell和一篇
sicence。
其中science文章是从现象角度证明并量化一种假说 circadian gating的假说。其实就
是设计测量两种rhythm的相关性，并用物理量和模型（非常简单的模型，物理强调的是
简化问题，抓住问题核心）刻画这一相关性， Circadian gating of the cell cycle

have won the 2017 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine for their work on
molecular mechanisms that control circadian systems.
Hall was born in New York, Rosbash in Kansas City, and they both worked at
Brandeis University. Michael Young was born in Miami and worked at
Rockefeller University.
