发帖数: 4 | 3 看到版上有兄弟问到有关更换catalytic converter 及oxygen （O2）sensor 的问题，
碰巧我最近刚换过，有用没用的，就上来说两句，希望有帮助。
首先简单说一下catalytic converter 和O2 sensor 的作用。Catalytic converter
属于exhaust system，或者说介于发动机和exhaust system 之间。它内部有两部分填
料，分别把NO和CO置换成N2，CO2以及H2O。也就是说把发动机排出的燃烧后和未充分燃
烧的有毒成分大部分转换成符合排放标准的低毒成分，减少空气污染，保护环境。因此
catalytic converter 失效是一定通不过年检的。O2 sensor 分几种，有一根导线，两
根导线或是三根的。现在的基本是四根导线，一根传信号，通常是黑色的，一根地线，
灰的，两根白色的，通heater加热，因此如果是自己想检查O2 sensor，一定要等车体

发帖数: 12623 | 4 convert的主要目的就是当时交税。不同的IRA的区别就是不同时候交税；如果你一直有
Traditional IRA就拿出来的时候交税；一开始放Roth IRA就是放的时候交税。convert
就可以中间你选的时候交税。一般是如果你有一年收入很低，所以税很低，那convert
就不用交那么多税。
而且很多人早晚都要convert的，因为Traditional IRA有required minimum
distribution，要留着钱很难，所以convert到Roth IRA之后就可以留到晚一点用，或
留给下一代。
1. convert之后5年之内拿也有penalty的；5年之后就没有
2. 是不是rollover过来的无相关。convert多少都可以，没有限制（但是一下子
convert太多可能会推你到更高的tax bracket，就不那么值得了）。想之前说的，
convert之后5年之内拿也有penalty |

【注意】原厂装CATALYTIC CONVERTER 不能随便更换...
想发此帖己很长时间了, 有些车尾气测试被FAIL,立即去车行求修,有时车行就给客人换
converter, 当然是换上付厂件,虽然当时pass 但后患无穷,付厂件是对付一时,不能长
久, 二年后再测又fail,得再换... 车行不傻,换下原厂件的旧converter很快就以$100-
-150卖给懂行的废气修理部门了.
不久前,一辆CAMRY被xx车行无端换上付厂converter, 说这样pass更容易, 结果是前三
样fail, 经有关店查验,付厂converter质不过关,反而fail , 建议车主立即去xx车行追
回被换下的原厂converter,这位女车主责xx车行装回,经测试立即pass,这位女车主惊喜
不已...
原厂装converter通常在30万公里内.在正常维修保养下是不会坏的, 即令有时效果欠佳
,经专门处理后仍旧可以正常工作, 车主不可以随便同意更换, 即使更换,也要回收旧原

发帖数: 12623 | 7 你有没有看lz的帖子的？他每年想做backdoor Roth IRA contribution（就是存到
Traditional IRA跟着马上convert到Roth IRA）。
有税前的钱在Traditional IRA里就麻烦了，因为convert到Roth IRA时自动convert税
前和税后的钱的一样比例。如果有税前的钱在Traditional IRA里，无论convert多少都
要convert一部分税前的钱，就要交税；而且如果不把Traditional IRA全部convert的
话，就会留一部分税后的钱在Traditional IRA，一点都不划算。可以把所有
Traditional IRA的钱convert到Roth IRA，但是lz不想现在convert那些钱，因为他税
率高。
把钱放在Traditional 401k就是解决这个的方法。 |

For existing traditional IRA, whether or not to convert depends on:
1. Is your tax rate higher now or after you retire? If now it is higher, do
not convert. Otherwise, convert! Here I assume that your traditional IRA is
pre-tax money, if it is non-deductible IRA (or after-tax money), you always
should convert!

后Cat Converter，所以肯定是前面的那个（California Emissions，有前后两个），
机械师也是这么说的。
问了下dealership的Cat Converter要1200刀。。。 杀人啊对于我这个穷学生来说，网
上又不能买符合加州标准的OEM Cat Converter，多数网站符合型号的Converter都不运
到加州，因为尾气标准不同。
现在后悔应该在纽约把这个Converter换掉的。。。现在不换它过不了Smog Check。。。
大家给个主意，哪里能买到便宜的？ |

经过一番 research, 发现基本上有两条路.一个是现在买 convertible car seat, 用到娃长到 65磅或者70磅的时候再买 booster seat; 另外一个办法是一步到位,买一个非convertible 但是能用到 100 磅的 car seat (不需要另外买 booster seat). 这第二个选择明显会省钱, 但是作为父母, 当然又想尽自己努力给娃提供最好的条件....
纠结啊纠结.
然后呢, 就是总结每条路里具体有什么选择. 我的原则是, 走大众化的路线, 尽量买popular 的选择, 大家都买的东西, 一定有它畅销的原则, 应该至少不是最糟糕的. 另外就是在价格适中可以接受的情况下, 挑选review最好的.
于是在网上挑挑选选之后, 总结出三套方案:

发帖数: 1313 | 30 考古了一下，最后几个问题想请教一下：我的情况不复杂，有Roth 15K，很早一个401K
10K，一直没有RollOver，没有Traditional IRA。现在想直接把这个401K转成Roth。
1. Convert没有收入限制，但是Convert多少也没有限制吧？比如2010年把这个10K全转
Roth了，就是这部分要缴税，但不会影响到今年Roth的Contribution吧？2010年另外还
能放5000Roth，对吧？
2. Convert的时候需要把里面的基金全卖掉吗？变成Cash转过去？如果不要，401K有些
基金只有几十几百块，而Roth买基金一般要求最少500或2500的，这样转过去了不是要
收Minimum Balance Fee了？
3. Convert的部分5年内取出来要Penalty。如果5年内取一部分，能不能指定说从原来
的Roth本金中取？比如Convert后一共25K了，5年内去出5K本金，要罚款吗？

如果Traditional IRA contribution没有deduct，convert到Roth IRA的时候就不用交
税。你做2014的Traditional IRA contribution，跟着convert到Roth IRA，deduct那
个contribution没有意义，因为就算你deduct也convert的时候加回去一样的收入。其
实要做backdoor Roth IRA（看下面）的人一般都不符合deduct Traditional IRA
contribution，所以是否deduct这个考虑根本不会出现。
contribute到Traditional IRA跟着convert到Roth IRA就是backdoor Roth IRA
contribution。跟直接Roth IRA contribution一样，除了没有收入限制。所以如果你

，问了维修厂，加labor要580。本人的车是Lancer ES 05年的。
查了一下，wikipedia上面说催化转换器catalytic converter基本上是环境保护的装置
，处理排放出车外的有害气体，比如CO。

这样看来，不换对于车主没有什么影响，有害气体反正都已经排放出车外了。
穷，不想换。

aftermarket catalytic converter，结果最近发现check engine灯又亮了，到另一个
店里查code是 P0420，检查发现O2 sensor工作正常，应该是cat又坏了，不到一年，期
间只开了3K miles.回去原来换件的店里找，他们说warranty只有6个月，现在过了。但
我上网查的结果是

warranty on the converter shell, casing and end pipes and a 25,000 mile

converter的 结果不是。这个罩子装上的时候其实不是跟converter touch到的，里面
有几个地方有钢丝刷一样的东西，哪个可能接触converter，然后这个罩子跟converter
之间可能还有空气，能隔热一点。不过车厂也是抠门啊，这个玩意弄个弄个不锈钢啥的
不行么，铁片的很容易锈了就拉达着 车一开就有稀里哗啦的声音 |

发帖数: 483 | 47 Outback 开了100k miles. 在低速行驶时踩刹车。车子很容易死火。
换了火花塞，清洗了化油器。都没有用。后来发现是torque converter 的问题。
converter 的质量不好。debris会掉到变速箱的油管里。高速时，变速箱供油大，没关
系。低速时，供油小，油管容易堵。导致死火。 网上查了一下，很多outback 到十万
都会有这个问题。这个converter本身不贵，百十块钱。但蠢的是，这个converter被设
计在变速箱里。一动变速箱，没有个两三千下不来。
不知道是不是故意这么设计的。 |

do it. Unfortunately, there is one problem in the convertion process. You
can't just setup a new IRA (after tax) and convert it to Roth tax free. You
HAVE to convert proportionally from all your retirement account. For most
people already have 401k and a lot of money in it, it means that whatever
amount you want to convert, a large potion would come out of your 401k

yeah, I didn't know this until a few days ago.
I converted 20K(deductible) +5K (non-deductible) to Roth last year, still
have 50K(deductible) in my rollover IRA.
so I only can claim 1.67K basis for the 5K, and still have 3.33K basis in
the rollover IRA.
so if I don't convert more to Roth in 2012 and after 2012 I can't convert
anymore due to income restriction, the 3.33K basis will stay in my IRA until
I start withdrawal in 20-30 years? And at that time, the basis is still 3.
