你们这些小中。 我怎么说你们呢？
这楼主写的很好。 真的很好！ 里面的举例也很感人。提倡的主题也是令人尊敬和赞同
的。
但是你们这些小中啊， 就是还差那么一截。 要是哪天你们明白了这其中非常微妙的一
个细节， 你们就真正的成长了。 说来说去， 就是这么个微妙一步， 你们的教育没有
触及过。
我就开导一下吧。 我相信100个小小中里面， 有5个能收到启发， 也值得了。
楼主写的， 尤其是接近尾声这部分， 只有当一个人告诉自己这些话的时候， 才是一
种成功！
当某人过去没有这些领悟， 某天突然像楼主这样读到了， 看到了， 想到了。 然后告
诫了自己。

发帖数: 61 | 12 近日被dealer忽悠准备掏银子买进2014 Ford Escape S。正好收到ford寄给我的$750的
private cash back offer。请看上传的图，确实有小字说明某些型号不适用，但是
2014 Escape S并不在不适用名单。
把这个offer的纸头交给dealer，被dealer告知2014 Escape S不适用这个offer。我说
纸头上没说不适用，dealer说反正他的系统查不到，他没办法。
离开dealer，想想有些气不过，打ford的电话，转到marketing的一位女士，非常热情
，在了解我的情况以后，她也在电脑里一番查找，说也没找到，解释说这个型号太新，
系统数据还没来得及更新，要找领导请示。在电话里等了她10分钟，回来告诉我，这个
$750虽然是ford的offer，但是要不要honor却由dealer说了算，还建议我如果这家不愿
意honor，就换一家dealer看愿不愿意honor。
我觉得这个逻辑非常诡异，都是ford的dealer，如果对dealer没好处，没有dealer会愿

也比较相像。比较之下好莱坞商业片的特点让人看得非常清楚： Men
of Honor虽然可能是个真实的故事，但是其制作精美华丽，人物的脸
谱化倾向都使其真实感稍逊于Billy
Elliot那质朴无华的风格。Robert De Nero和Cuba Gooding, Jr.的
表演都很有激情，但是整部片子比起Billy Elliot来还是觉得缺点什
么，--还是激情吧。前面已经有不少人称赞过Billy Elliot里面的配
角表演也都十分到位。不能说Men of Honor里面的配角表演有什么缺
陷，但是不幸的仍然是我们已经看过了Billy Elliot，相比之下这方
面Billy仍然要高上一筹。总体的感觉，Billy Elliot的故事、人物
（包括配角的表演）浑然天成，其中夸张的成分也那么真实、自然，
让人觉得是故事发展的必须；而Men of Honor，其中的故事、人物总
有些似曾相识的感觉，似乎好莱坞的片子都是由这些现成的材料组合
而成的。Men of Honor还是很不错的，值得一看，只是不幸我们已经

pride 又分为个人和群体。靠什么火车 二维码 来提高自豪感很可笑。也不会赢得尊重
。 人之间的交往 重点看人品。看你个人的integrity honor and pride. 不看你老家
火车有多快。那东西有个毛线用。
人首先自己要活的有个样子 自己尊重自己。 否则凭什么要别人尊重你。
索南 别的不说了 把自己个人卫生个人形象搞好这个不过分吧。把自己家门口的草地按

honor culture，美国学生样本组属于 dignity culture。

个人认为 一些民族，这几样都不差，比如日本，这几方面不见得都是最好，但是都不
差。至于韩国人，貌似integrity不太好，喜欢bending the rules，但是 honor 和
dignity方面 比中国人强。另外 礼仪 和 卫生 方面也比中国人强。这个讲礼貌懂礼仪
，注重个人卫生对外人来说印象深刻。
中国人在以上很多方面都严重缺失。其实爱因斯坦20年代的观察，还有情可原，因为那
时候的中国一团浆糊。但是现在的中国人，条件变好了，生活提高了，为什么各方面的
素质还是没有提高？ |

这是闹的一次重大胜利
原因如下：
USCIS命令奥本把第二排期退后的原因是immediate available 所以即使不闹第二排期
只能提前8-12月的量，这个害处我已经多次说明了，就是让大多数人更晚交485
现在USCIS被告以后，怕被再次被告，于是搞出这么一个废掉第二排期的规则来，这
样一来，我个人认为有两个可能第一：奥本就没必要在计算来确定第二排期了，就直接
用给CP用的date来做第二排期就像9月初第一版排期一样。这个给CP的排期会比正常放
水的date还要远，上次放水到EB2 12.15.2013 CP date在5.1.2014
所以我个人认为这是重大利好，USCIS会常年不honor第二排期，但是一honor 就是一个
大放水

发帖数: 2269 | 23 春季的时候收到一个honor society的invite，那是一个专门给国际学生的，由ISS管理，
75刀，我没加入，因为除了第一次的reception，pin, certificate外，没有任何活动。
9月份有个Golden Key International Honour Society，我也没有加入。
今天又收到Sigma Theta Tau International的invite，我记得这个是专门给nursing的，
以前也听老师说过，而且都建议加入。这个的会费挺贵的。这次有些犹豫了。
不明白这些honor society到底有什么实用价值？有利于找工作(因为可以写在resume上)
？network?
我参加了National Student Nurse Association (NSNA)，比较实际的就是参加了一次州
内的年会，因为NSNA的member自动就是州内association的member。不知道那些honor
society有什么好处？ |

另外，公立大学新生的学生水准本来就参差不齐，然后三四年级时又从各个社区大学转
来一帮高中差生来混学位，学位不够高大上。
如果能拿到这些公立的四年免学费加包吃包住的全奖，可以考虑一下，这些honor
program就算了。 |

不错，排名这么好的州立还有劝奖。我这里州立太穷，我儿子混个honor容易，但拿钱
不容易，之能靠我是职工，能有学费半折，不多，就8000左右得discount。学校为了多
收钱，很多费用变相成fee,这个还不算在打折得部分呢。我儿上州大商学院，费用（包
括吃住）大约是28-29K。
儿子基本决定去Grinnell了。这件事情上，我不准备为难他。这时做父亲得送给他得最
大一件礼物，也再我能承受的范围内，虽然还需要节省过日子。和小麦棋不同，生活质
量不是钱多少来衡量的，达到一个基本标准，就看怎么安排了。
再儿子的大学开销之外，我和太太算了账，每年两老自己的开销时税后40K。没有房贷
，房子也不大，种点菜，钓点鱼补贴家用，差不多可以过得去。思念后儿子大学毕业，
找得到工作，我们就可以退休了;找不到工作，接着念书，我就把他的一万多读书贷款
还了，就算了解我上辈子欠他的。。。

我们系统的 glitch 是出现在 Rebate 由 Pending 变为 Available 时，如果有两个
Process 同时在处理的时候，这个由 Pending 变为 Available 的 Rebate 数额在加到 Available Rebates 时会加两
次，造成 Available Rebates 的数额比实际要多。当用户 Redeem 掉这些 Available Rebates 时，我们就多付了。
当系统更正后，Available Rebates 就显示为负数了。

把这门课当成honor class，让我当他的指导老师。我从没有这方面的经验，所以两个
问题，请前辈指教：
1. 从上学期的表现看，这个学生聪明但是自大，有时候很rude，比如有一次midterm刚
考完自己感觉不好，就在我grading的时候来办公室高声argue，被我请走了，过几天发
考卷看到自己果然没有考到A，就在上课的时候很不高兴的把laptop敲得噼噼啪啪的。
我的问题是，怎么判断他是不是有behavior方面的问题？我如果指导他的过程中出现冲
突怎么办？
2. 另外就是如果我答应指导他，怎么设计一个有意思的project，既能让他上手又有一
定的深度？我目前的research肯定不需要他参与，而如果从课的内容上衍生一个课题给
他做又显得太容易，到处的资料，甚至不同的教科书，一抓一大把，随便弄个report来
糊弄我，有悖honors的原则。
