小（比如1e-16) 就死循环了 ＝ ＝
可是我用precision = 1e-15做，返回结果比java里面Math.sqrt() 精度少一位 (比如
sqrt（2.0) 我return 1.414213562373095， 而java math return 1.
4142135623730951）。
请问大牛Math。sqrt怎么能精度多一位的？ |

于是登录学区网站去查，发现math包括如下四个方面：
Number, Operations, and Quantitative Reasoning(Show Events) (25% of
subject grade)
Patterns, Relationships and Algebraic Thinking(Show Events) (25% of

就是Probability and Statistics给了个N，点进去一看全班都是N，心情顿时有点回复

本来没想过这些问题，但我确实是被孩子的学校同学(和某些推家长)，个个想进school
Math Olympiad team，学校又规定了名额，(只有35人)， 需要选拔录取， 搞得家长
们都有些不淡定了。
如果确实有好处，当然人人都想孩子参加。不过，至少我们这里，从家长，学校，
maybe even kids 的反应， 感觉好像这个不太同于一般的课外活动，也绝不是只是同
学一起social 一下。

感觉如果做完singapore math CWP 5或6年级后用水平会很适合。
AOPS prealgebra一开始就用抽象代数思想，对学数学长远来看非常有益，没接触过可
能要花点功夫去适应。
mathcounts好像尤其注重速度。有不少决赛在网上

(Russel, etc), some could be totally wrong.
There are two approaches to know the world: induction and deduction.
Logic is above all. It is neither induction nor deduction. Logic (like
syllogism) gives the rules/laws to do deduction. There are surely
classifications of logic, like proposition logic, predicate logic, etc. But
in general, Logic does not KNOW the world directly, but gives us tools to
know the world.

这个文章最好的地方是规范了公式的写法，遗弃了eqnarray这样不是很explicit的环境
变量。
我写文章的另一个指导方针是，只有在其他地方引用的公式在标号，其他的一概不标号
。
当然很多情况这个short math guide不覆盖，我自己也问过很多，不过读读对于规范写
作还是有好处的。 |

dynamics开始的。用的书是Steve Strogatz那本经典的Nonlinear dynamics and chaos
.这本书深入浅出，已经慢慢开始成为生物背景的同学学习应用微分方程的标准参考书
了。但是Steve Strogatz 的研究重点还是在应用数学上，但是2005年波士顿ICSB2005
年会依然请他做了一个演讲。
提到他，就要提到他的导师，Arthur Winfree，此人我觉得算得上当代math biology
的开山鼻祖了。Steve Strogatz ICSB2005 的演讲也就是作为对Arthur Winfree 的一

Annals, Inventions, JAMS, Acta下来基本上就是这些了。
Duke自然是Duke的杂志；
Adv. in Math.是MIT的杂志；
AJM是JHU办的。
CPAM是Courant所的家报。
很多学校也都有自己办的杂志，像Indiana Math Journal在PDE方面是很不错的。 |

I am actually thinking about double major in Math and Econ. Requirements are
10 courses in each major to get a BS, 12 courses for honor degree. So I can
only take limited math classes. I will have 5 math credit classes by the
end of this semester. So I am just trying to figure out what classes are
more important to take than others. I like number theory, combinatorics,
topology.
So I guess I better take number theory next semester, otherwise I will have

In general, if you cannot get 90% percentile or higher, it will have
negative effect on your application. Of course, for schools that require
this score, you must provide it.
If your undergraduate was not from math, you'd better forget about it. Look
for schools that do not require it. It is moderately hard for non-math-
majored people. Many schools say GRE-math is (highly) recommended. This mean
you do NOT need to provide it. |
