The mother of a kindergarten student at Neshoba Central Elementary School
who was left in a Meridian theatre during a field trip earlier this year is
seeking $50,000 in damages, claiming that the youngster is undergoing
medical care because of the experience.
The mother, Billy Fay Savell, said her 5-year-old daughter is undergoing
medical treatment because she has nightmares and is unable to sleep.

这是八九年前的事了，我寄了些考据红楼梦的大纲给宋淇看，有些内容看去很奇特。宋
淇戏称为Nightmare in the Red Chamber(红楼梦魇)，有时候隔些时就在信上问起“你
的红楼梦魇做得怎么样了？”我觉得这题目非常好，而且也确是这情形─一种疯狂。
那几年我刚巧有机会在哈佛燕京图书馆与柏克莱的加大图书馆借书，看到脂本红楼
梦。近人的考据都是站着看─来不及坐下。至于自己做，我唯一的资格是实在熟读红楼
梦，不同的本子不用留神看，稍微眼生点的字自会蹦出来。但是没写过理论文字，当然
笑话一五一十。我大概是中了古文的毒，培根的散文最记得这一句：“简短是隽语的灵
魂”，不过认为不限隽语，所以一个字看得有巴斗大，能省一个也是好的。因为怕唠叨
，说理已经不够清楚，又把全抄本─即所谓“红楼梦稿”─简称抄本。其实这些本子都
是抄本。难怪“初详红楼梦”刊出后，有个朋友告诉我看不懂─当然说得较婉转。
