现在主流的cam-phaser都是第二代（基于螺管的）和第三代（Vane Type）
都需要复杂的油路系统，一是本身有一点功率损耗，二是油路也是潜在的可靠性杀手
更新的cam-phaser都想想法减少对油路的依赖
一个思路是电动，Nissan和Toyota的一些高端引擎上在用（但都是用在某一侧）
另一个思路就是靠凸轮轴本身的扭矩，凸轮轴驱动气门
所以凸轮压迫气门时凸轮轴受负扭矩，离开气门时
气门在弹簧作用下复进，凸轮轴得到正扭矩
用好了，只靠这点扭矩就能实现对cam-phaser的精确控制
这个思路我觉得是非常巧妙的 |

最初VTEC的目标是要提高性能，所以是应用在DOHC引擎上，进、排气端各有一套2-
stage VTEC（注意，本源意义上的VTEC因为是cam-switching系统，必然是分段式的）
。最初的版本切换凸轮时只改变升程，但很快后续版本就同时改变升程和正时了。
然后VTEC又开始用于经济车型的SOHC引擎上。前面说的DOHC VTEC是基于cam follower
的，SOHC VTEC则是基于rocker arm，所以是不同的技术（注意：日本车厂资料一般会
混淆follower和rocker arm，不知道是不是日本人的英语问题……）。早期的SOHC
VTEC因为packaging的限制，只应用在进气端。
SOHC VTEC这条线进化很快，首先是出现了VTEC-E这个变体。它是低转时两个进气门其
中一个是关闭的，需要时通过VTEC激活它。所以引擎在3V和4V模式之间切换，而3V模式
在经济工况实际上比4V表现要好。
再后来，最初版本的SOHC VTEC和VTEC-E的功能合二为一，成了3-stage VTEC

Interstingly, its MSRP is aboout 1k lower 2011. For example, 2012 SE with
RSE is $33490.
If for 2012 routan, you guys can get 12k off MSRP, it actually means 13K off
MSRP of 2011 model. A bargain indeed.
Haven't noticed any major change in 2012 model, but general sense is later
model is more reliable. For routan, 2012 might have less "phaser sensor" or
similar design issues. |

Odyssey or Sienna indeed.
"抖动问题" might be the phaser sensor issues, from what I have learned from
edmunds. There are 4 of them in the van. VW / chrysler has recalled them.
But if you can't find issue, they will not replace.
In addition, brake might "warping" later on. VW or chrysler will pay for
the repair.
Also, for some vans, sliding door might not close properly. Need to be
repair.

1) Quest: stall on slope when fuel is low, and "average" rating for
rollover test, CVT transmission questionable (but with free extended
warranty
2) Odyssey: transmission issue (Honda still deny it)
3) sienna: "2 star" rating for front crash test with female dummy at 35 mph.
sticking sliding door issue. Front bumper too low
4) Rountan /T&C: brake quality, sliding door issue, transmission "shrudder"
