But on the course, with all other factors, i always end up messing the
distance or break of my first putt, and leave myself around 4-5 feet to
recover.
Seems that i can not remember how hard to putt for the first putt, ie,
problem with distance control, sometimes long, way long, sometimes short.
It is a shame that my long game now is at my prime, as good as guys in 70s

one run with 37 putts, another is 38 putts, which is my avg. putt number.
but my buddies were saying that is too much, since one is 31 the other is 30
, and they were shooting low 80s for my different day platmate.
so i am guessing, i have to reduce my putts to get to low 80s.
whats your avg putt number? and how you get there? |

started with 2 par4, up and down save par, and follow with 3 GIR, but all 3
end up with 3 putts each. 6th hole par4, 3 on 3 putt, 7th par4 4 on 1 putt,
8th par3 another up and down save par, 9th par5 5 on 1 putt.
17 putts, 43 for 9 hole
other than 6th hole mistake, the rest i was feeling very good. but score is
still just ok.
and seems the problems are all over the place.

1. short putt within 5 feet.
2. long putt,no matter the distance, stoke the ball within 5 feet.
now, I can get around 80% to the hole within 5 feet. for long putt,60%
chance put ball within 5 feet.

to improve approaching shot and tee shot. if you can hit ball 7 feet or less
to the pin, you have chance to reduce putt.
i will be very happy if i only have two putts for distance more than 5 feet.
but you know it is hard to hit ball 5 feet or less to the pin.

把球随机的任在fairway like grass and rough like grass
pitch from 5 - 30 yards from fringe of green
这个practice green 有中等坡度， 6 holes are cut.
play 7 holes, one hole twice.
2 putts for 6 holes, 包括一个７feet breaking putt lip out.
up and down for 1 hole, which is the farthest about 30 yards from rough and
back pin location
so that is 13/7 = 1.86 putts/hole, far better than my course play best

the pin for mid/high capper. The key here is distance control of the first
putt and green reading. You have to be aggresive within control, make sure
it is strong enough to hole it but you can make the return putt if you miss.

it seems the more strokes to get on green, the fewer putt he needed.
some of those green are huge and two tiers. not sure how long first butt is
for his 3putts.
if from 40-60 ft away from pin, 3 putts is not too bad(sometimes you have

low 2.x is very good.
if it's on a course with mild green slopes and you play there often and
familiar with the greens, then 2.1 is average for mid handicappers. but
still good for 20+ handicappers. my best is 2.3x...
for mid/high handicappers, GIR is usually than <50%. have to rely on good
chip/pitch. if you get can more up_and_downs than 3 putts a round, then
average high 1.x is in shape.

i have a score card to keep those stats
for my pass 10 runs, from low 2.1 to high 2.8, and mostly 2.4,
with around 40% GIR in general
i think the other impact is mental when you miss your birdie or par chance.
for the same bogey hole, comparing with saving from chip/pitch plus two
putts, the GIR 3-putt bogey got much negative effect on my next hole. |

putts vs. the "feel" approach. Meaning when you practice long putts,
actually walk-off the distance and match it with the length of your take-
away and follow through.

played on local muni (san ramon golf club), #8 short par5
in the same group, another single digit reach in green by 2 as well, but he
missed his eagle putt so badly, ended up with a par.
I did try to drive to the short par4 #3 hole on the same course, as Voyiger
suggested. I guess i might hit cart path, everyone was searching for my ball

no one close within 25 ft, most of them ending with a par instead of a
birdie. My chipping as well as pitching for an eagle seems better than my

how well you set up and how well you putt on range, when you play on courses
, there are much more factors impact your ball roll, namely, downhill,
uphill, reading green, left break, right break, distance control, short/long
, lost focus, distractions, ...

昨天第一次打home course黑梯 (第一洞白梯有人，就捡白梯开球了，其他全部黑梯）,
开车跳组捡没人的洞打， 2个小时打18个洞。
有不少洞重复打了几次。跳了两个洞， 最后50-120码估算1wedge 2putts 或2 wedge 1
putt. 不是很严格，但尽可能忠实积分了。用了一个free drop, 赶时间打没太多时间
找球。不能qualify就当作交流打球体会吧。
是我今年打的最好的一轮了。比我几个月前从白梯反而打的好。挥杆技术最近提高了不
少。

went to boundary oak golf course today at 4:40p, driving range closed. ended
up practice putting on their huge putting green, which is sloped from south
and east.
20-30 min, 3 holes, all putt from over 40feet away. first time try to read
the putt line from 3 perspectives. results: 2 putts, 3 putts (2nd putt lip
out), 2 putts.

a good shot. For 8 to 10 feet, you should have 30% of chance to have one
putt in. Even you can’t, next putt should be within 3 feet. I believe the
greens you play are very difficult to putt. I always play at a course I know
, so my putting is getting better and better, which doesn’t mean my putting
is good. One thing I am good at is I rarely miss a putt within 4 feet.

I checked my scorecard of that 9 holes (back 9) I played with you at
Callippe.
Yes, most holes are 2 putts, I guess that is why you got the impression that
my putting was not too bad.
But #11 par4, huge uphill hole, luckily, i was 2 on, 4 putts. Another, #15,
par3, my tee was on the green, but took me 3 putts. total 20 putts for 9
holes.
I played boundary oaks twice, both times, ended up with 42 putts. for #5 and

Turn out I played 2 rounds so far.
one round, 91, 38 putts, 3 penalties
another round, 88, 40 putts, with 2 birdies (if not that two birdies, that
would be at least 42 putts)
43 putts is a bit high, but it is about normal range for my putting. But 32
putts is a very extreme to me.
I played both Sunol and Sunnyvale before. It is normal to take 5 more putts.

goes up. for me, this is because i will end up with more 40+ feet putts. and
when the greens are tricky, i very often 3-putt these long ones.
if i miss the greens in regulation, most of the times i am pretty close to
the greens, so the pitch shot usually end up much closer to the pin than my
regulation approach shots, so most of the time i have much shorter putts,
therefore the chance of 3-putts becomes lower.

i guess depends on the green, if the green provides a lot of breaks, 2 putts
from 20- 40ft is kind of hard.
plus once you walk up green and find out birdie chances, more pressure to
putts well. aff used to write getting chip-in birdie, since chip-in is
less likely than putt-in birdie, so when chipping pressure is lower for make
birdie.
need to put more time practice putting too: intentially practice putt from
20-30ft, and putt from 1 |

find a sloped green and try it, see how many 2 putts you can make from 12
feet.
last time i tried a very sloped green at bridges, 4 putts is not uncommon.
one pole, the ball can NOT stop 8 feet around the hole, so even 10putts from 12
feet is possible....
no need to be depressed... i would take joy in reaching 500yard in two,
only very few amateur can do that... |

从第10洞开打的
9个洞, 42, 本来应该是很高兴的成绩，不过，过程很痛苦
没有BIRDIE, 4个PAR, 两个是正常的GIR加两PUTT， 两个是SCRAMBLE，一切，一PUTT
剩下全是3-PUTT
总结出来的结论是: 长PUTT的时候控制不好DISTANCE，短PUTT的时候控制不好
DIRECTION。 哈哈 |

style, so i was more arc-style.
then I switched around few more expensive putters, eventually, i settled
down with the Odyssey Black #9 Tour Design. Now I am gaming it with arc back
, straight forward style, which i was told that is actually Tiger's style.
It worked fairly well on slow green, but I am terrible on judging the green
speed on fast green, almost no distance control on fast green.

very short wedge shot made possible by good drive on par4
or 10-20ft putt made on drive green on short par4
or 100 yard or so wedge shot on par3
if only made those memorable 4-10 feet putts, bird count would have doubled.
so to make more birds:
putter, wedge, driver are the clubs i practise mose.
unfortunately, iron PW-3i never produced me any birdie, but it did gave me 1-2 <10ft putt opportunities.

其实相比去年赶紧发球和铁杆都没有提高，就是short games变好了，chip基本一次成
功，100yard之内的短铁也有一半时候上green，putt虽然不能稳定在2 putts，但是1
putt的次数差不多抵消3 putts，平均2 putts。我的经验是，短铁或者chip shot时候
，瞄准好，然后估计好所需挥杆力量，打球时候头稳住，打完了不要着急看球往哪里去
，这样出来效果不错。回想以前，chip shot时候着急看球打得怎么样，往往造成头往
上动，球就打薄了，结果可想而知。
还有一个是心态，昨天开局不顺，发球糟糕，前5个洞打了30杆，后面还有2个par4，1

did much better in the back 9, scored a 45. had a couple of birdie putts, did
not make them. i misses every putt longer than 6 feet today, and had many

本来湾区这个季节是冷和下雨的天气，结果天放晴，球场几乎一点风都没有
很多人都穿T-SHIRT在打
自己打得也有一些HIGHLIGHT，但总是不该出错的时候出错
有一469的PAR5本来借下坡，两杆到GREENSIDE，结果CHIPPING的时候LEADING EDGE打
到球，从这边GREEN EDGE 打到那边的EDGE
还有一279DOG LEG LEFT PAR4，同伴对场地熟悉告诉CUT CORNER
一杆到GREEN边，心里那个喜
结果心想CHIPPING不成，咱该PUTTING，一PUTT太轻，二PUTT太重，三PUTT没进
本来以为DRIVER好一些, 有两PAR5 DRIVER楞没打上
FAIRWAY上SHANK了一5IRON，有时3WOOD也没打上
看来DRIVER要练，IRON要练，WOODS要练，GREENSIDE SHORT GAME 要练，PUTT要练
好象没啥不需要练
