My feeling:
1. If you apply through EB1B for faculty, green card is fast and easy.
2. I work at least half time at home. No complaints from colleagues.
3. It is not suggested that you have your next kid before you accomplish
something. I did it after I got two grants.
4. There will be one year of tenure-clock extension when you take maternity
leave. Maternity leave as faculty is full pay for a whole semester. You don'

样，上到一半年龄到了想升班或者想留下都随便。价钱是每年40块钱的membership fee
，平时每个semester再交钱。我记得算过大概每周一节课，一节课19，20块钱的样子。
我们运气好，正好上的spring和summer都是交一节课的钱每周可以去上两节课，所以10
块钱45分钟还蛮好的。等fall据说就没有这个优惠了。 |

学校有个policy，如果这学期(spring)已经答辩完了，下学期(summer)就可以不用
register,而我的F-1身份依然有效。条件是系里必须给international office发封确认
的信件，并且我本人必须填写一张"last semester notification"。
这些都做了，现在忽然收到international office一张新的I-20，和原来的唯一区别就是把2012年过期，改成了2010年夏末过期了。可能是因为他们知道summer是我最后一个semester了，所以就改了？
我本来打算回国待一个月，现在看来我的I-20只有2-3个月时间过期，我是不是就不要回去了？
啰嗦了点，请有经验的指教。

不好，lg 当时临近毕业，论文、考试、找工作加在一起，都没太关注F2转F1。我一直

我的文采并不算好，但却是一个比较真实的留学生的故事。中国现在与世界的交流越来
越强，来美国也已经变得容易很多了，但我相信，还是有那部分人对真实的美国生活有
所好奇，于是，一直潜水2年的我换了个ID来这儿说说我的生活。
本人算是80后，在国内读了算是重点大学的本科和研究生，其实一直以来都没有想
到出国，最后出来也完全是学校的一次交流机会，本质上就是拿着所谓“访问学者 ”
的签证来给这儿的老板做“廉价”的工作。来到美国已经2年半了，回顾这2年半，在美
国主要做的事情还就是调整身份，也就是把以前的J1签证调整成 H1B工作身份，因为
H1B是移民的第一步。
很多事情出现总是出乎我们的预测，正如我来美国之前，其实我是打算待最多1年
就回国的，抱着来看看美国的山水，然后学学英文这样单纯的想法，至于后来为什么想
要留下来，原因是复杂的，用一个老移民的说法就是：去了美国，就等于上了贼船，想

不过就转SEVIS的问题我还特意问过ISSS
如果你想5月拿到master那就一定要等到这个spring semester结束，你的release date
一定是要在semester end date之后才能转。可能你的master学位不一定在学期结束前
就马上能拿到，因为会有一个审核然后送审的过程，所以会迟一些。
至于如果现在就转SEVIS能不能拿到master，不清楚你们学校的地要求，但如果就是过
了qualify就可以拿，很有可能学校的做法会让你在1月就quit出phd program，然后你
就可以开始转SEVIS。我的情况就是2月份和学校说了，本来学校一般是5月份给master
，马上就把phd终止在了一月份，然后立马就进入审核master的程序。而我现在就等于
在OPT阶段，很被动。
所以保险起见，反正你现在也不可能去B校干活上课，就干脆等到5月份再quuit出你这
个学期。这样都不用申请OPT
这当然是我咨询了ISSS以后的想法。可能还有别的解决方法：）

我之所以担心时间的问题是因为我周围的几个同学都take了3个多月到最后开学的
deadline那一天才转成功的。
你那LP 是什么时候递交的申请材料？（因为我听说fall semester申请的人比较多，所
以转身份的人也比spring semester要多，所以花的时间要普遍长一些） |

我已经注册了学校秋天的课程，但是估计这次回去短期内是回不来的。所以想着drop秋
天的课程。从春季再开始上课。
我听说F1必须是full time student,每semester都要选12个credit的课程。不知道我不
上秋天的课程，是不是对F1的身份有影响？反签的时候会不给我签证么？
还有一个办法，不知道可不可以。我们秋天的课程分两种，有一种是11月开始，系里小
密说我可以回来后再注册那个课程，但是只有6credit
现在脑子很混乱，求大家出出主意。
刚听说可以办理休学，要是休学的话，反签的时候是拿原来子的I-20还是要学校办个新

是迄今为止我没有看到USCIS对这个问题有明确的解释，各个学校有不同的理解很正常
。譬如我看到的一个学校国际学生办公室主页上是这么着写的：
OPT Eligibility
1. Lawfully enrolled full-time for one academic year: two consecutive long
semesters (Time in another legal-study category, such as H-4 can count if
immediately preceding the semester of the OPT)

pay tuition of course, but many schools don't require class registration for
summer, and 1-2 credit might be enough for the last semester, so it shouldn
't be a lot of money. Assume using 1st MS degree to apply h1b. |
