The National Academy of Sciences announced today the election of 84 new
members and 21 foreign associates from 14 countries in recognition of their
distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.
Those elected today bring the total number of active members to 2,179 and
the total number of foreign associates to 437. Foreign associates are

The great thing about the US NAS system is that if you do make significant
contributions to a particular field, you eventually will be recognized. CNS
papers will help, but definitely are not necessary.

既然你提到Jen Sheen，我就提前写写她。跟前面几位偶像比起来，我跟Jen Sheen总归
有一面之缘。我曾经邀请过她做talk，并一起吃了晚饭，还聊了很久。我也曾想过去她
实验室，不过最后打了退堂鼓。一是听了一些负面的说法，而是她要求很高，我掂量自
己感觉不够格。
她名字特别，实际上是台湾人。在harvard读的PhD，是我做rotation实验室老板以前的
师妹。她给我的感觉是有自己强烈的主见和想法。对科研对学生薄厚要求都很高。
她住在实验室附近，走路就可以到。她告诉我自从20年前拿到驾照之后就没开过车了。
对她来说，生活就是实验室。尽管她参加很多会议，但是感觉并不social，也很少到处
跟人合作。另外，她的英语并不perfect，多少让我有些意外。因为就她这么勤奋的人
来说，我觉得她对任何事情都该力求完美。
她公开的介绍比较少。但是从发文章来看，她大约是83年到88左右在harvard读PhD。我
跟她聊天的时候偶尔抱怨当时的老板对我的课题没有想法。她告诉我说她博士的老板不
怎么管她。所以要自己管自己，自己独立去做。她很有主见和行动力，博士期间独自一
口气发了7篇文
