Well, it only works when declarer has only 1 spade, in which
case he is unable to set up the spade Queen for a pitch.
But if he has something like xx KQJxxx Ax Kxx, a passive defense
will be fatal.

carding should be both attitude and count if possible.
When partner holds even number of S, the right play is to cash CA next and see
(attitude) signal. If partner discourage C continuation unabmiguously he's
probably asking for a S ruff; if he encourages heartily you do not have a
problem. If he plays some ambiguous signal, he probably lacks direction, i.e,
neither suits look attractive enough. So you might want to s
