West leads HA, East 7.
West cashes CA, East 3.
West HT, your K win, an East 8.
You play D3, 7, J, A.
West H6, 4, J, and you ruff.
You play SA, 3, 2, 5.
You play SK, 6, 4, C5.
How do you play from here? | u********e 发帖数: 4950 | | j*******e 发帖数: 2168 | 3 From W's play, it does seem this line will work, i.e. W is more likely to
hold 3631/3622 than 3613?
But maybe we can delay the decision a bit later, maybe defense will help by
a wrong discard?
So play a trump to Q, Cash CK, if W shows out, it is clear to play D.
If W still has a club, we need to decide whether E has 2D2C or 3D1C left...

| i****e 发帖数: 642 | 5 On SQ, east discard one more C.
Both follow on CK.
Are you going to ruff C or D? There is still a guess of 3622 or 3613 for
west, but you can make it if you guess right.
When I watched the play, I did not realize the squeeze to east at all, even
seeing all 4 hands. The declarer correctly established the 4th club at dummy.

| j*******e 发帖数: 2168 | 6 If E is a good player, the C discard should always be smooth.
In case it look him long to part with a C on SQ, though,
you may want to shoot for the squeeze (i.e. play W for 3613)?
But then, is W a good player? If he does have 3613,
he should probably have played a trump when getting in with DA,
denying you an extra entry?
If this is a quiz instead of real table bridge, we need to assume W
does not make mistakes, and thus play him for 3622, right?;-)
even
dummy.

| i****e 发帖数: 642 | 7 I agree with your analysis. But even for good players, you can't expect good
play from them all the time at the table, especially for defense. The
declarer was Dano, and his pd was JEC (JEC is always south. I rotated the
hand, so declarer is south). Don't remember east and west players, but we
can normally expect they are good players :)
It may not be obvious that there is problem to give dummy an entry when
getting in with DA.

| b***y 发帖数: 2804 | 8 Interesting hand. The problem is dummy's lack of entry. If S9 and S7 were
swapped, then declarer can execute an automatic squeeze against East, no
need to guess. | j*******e 发帖数: 2168 | 9 still need to guess if W has 3622 or 3613, no?

| b***y 发帖数: 2804 | 10 No need. If dummy has S9, then you just draw 3 rounds of trumps ending in
dummy, play CK and ruff another C, then play a trump to S9, that card will
squeeze East.
Of course you need to ruff C (and earlier H) with bigger trumps in order to
leave entry to S9, so you do need to plan ahead.

| | | u********e 发帖数: 4950 | 11 exactly, the dummy seems to be lack of entry even we know east is defending
both the club and diamond

| b***y 发帖数: 2804 | 12 Yes, this is why simple squeeze won't work, it has to be a form of trump
squeeze, and you have to guess the distribution.

| u********e 发帖数: 4950 | 13 In this case, it should be clear to play I guess.
ruff C into hand, if dummy's last C was established, claim D and let dummy
ruffy D to claim the last C
The condition should be like below before "ruff C into hand":
Dummy:
S:7
D:6
C:97
Hand:
S:J
D:K85
Any problem?
even

Now dummy play a spade, what does East keep?

ops, Sorry, I forgot we already knew if W is 3631 when cashing CK and thus
can play D immediately in that case.
You are totally right:)
