I hope to install SQL 2005 (32bit) under Win7 64bit OS. The system says that
it is not compatible.
I tried to install SQL 2012 RC0 and 2008 R2 (evaluation version) but failed.
Is there some trick to install? Can you kindly advice some link about how
to install either one?
Does the XP mode help? If I install the SQL into XP-mode, can Excel connect
to the SQL server?
When I google the subject and find a link charging about $2.97 for the
instruction of installing SQL 2005 on 64bit Win7. Did anybody try the
instruction successfully?

Download the 64bit one and retry. |

The reason for 32bit SQL server on 64bit OS is because I have a 32bit SQL
server (dev version) and I know it is good (I use it on a 32bit XP os for
years). Now my laptops are 64bit Win7 and I hope to install a SQL server
under win7.
coolbid: can you kindly share which version of 64bit SQL you are using? Is
it commercial? I use the server mainly for self study.

Just try 64bit. Don't stick to something almost expired.

I did try the 2012 RC0, 2008 R2 evaluation, 2008 R2 Express on my 64 bit
Win7 pro OS. I know I am naive, but none works for me.
The installation of each one was smooth, no error or at most one warning
happened during all the installations. But I can not connect to the SQL
server data engine, no matter "local" or SQLEXPRESS, from SSMS!
If you can kindly advice some instruction, that is appreciated. Thanks. |

IP client protocol is enabled.

Thank you, jackrun. Yes, I did enable the TCP/IP under SQL server
configuration manager\SQL native client 10.0, but did not work.

microsoft.com 网站提供试用下载 用google 搜这几个下载链接比较快，用microsoft.com搜不出来。
然后用flash-drive boot安装，
win7 enterprise (32/64bit) (3 month evaluation version)
win7,3个月后用rearm命令再激活，可重激活9次. 初始3个月+3个月x9次=30个月
or
windonws server 2008 R2 (32/64bit)(6 month evaluation version)
如果装了windonws server 2008，这台电脑大概就只能工作啦，
我记得装娱乐，播放电影的软件,装我的msi显卡driver很困难，
微软网站还有Windows HPC Server 2008 R2试用版，
那个只能识别指定的server CPU,
所以用win7enterprise 或server 2008 + sql server应该总有一个可以 |

Thank you, charlie90001. I have 2 win7, one is pro, one is ult. I have tried
the SQL server 2008 R2 64bit evaluation version but failed. Sorry, I do not
understand the win7 enterprise (32/64bit) (3 month evaluation version). Is
it SQL server enterprise evaluation version? I have not tried this version.
I will google it.
