Summary:
We are looking for a Scientific Business Analyst to work with Research
Scientists and act as a liaison between IT and Research. This role
interfaces between systems analysts/programmers and Scientists to ensure
that information technology designs meet the needs of the end users and
while developing a comprehensive Research wide data management plan. In
addition, this person documents product/service requirements and develops
design plans that incorporate new system requests into the overall Research
systems architecture. It requires logic knowledge of system capabilities and
business process analysis in a highly complex scientific environment.
Essential Functions :
- Work with the senior Scientists laboratory personnel to understand their
business processes and suggest improvement opportunities
- Knowledge of enterprise wide data management practices and principles with
an added ability to develop a comprehensive data management s for the
enterprise
- Work closely with end-users and technical team members to translate high-
level business and user requirements into functional and design
specifications
- Follows the methodologies and standards for IT project management and
implementation, which includes guidelines, procedures, standards,
documentation, and monitoring for organizational compliance
- Manage and lead scientific related business systems needs assessment,
design, build and implementation
- Act as expert technical resource to development staff in all phases of the
development and implementation process
- Manage Research IT related budget
- Ability to train, develop and manage junior scientific business analysts
- Assist with hands on coding tasks as needed
- Performs related duties as assigned or requested
Experience - External:
Requirements:
This position requires a Graduate degree in a life science, computer science
, or information technology and 8+ years of relevant work experience.
Additional requirements include:
- Experience with biological laboratory techniques
- Broad exposure to different types of biological, technical and
bioinformatics methods
- Proficiency with a scripting language (Perl, Ruby, Python)
- Understanding of relational database concepts
- Understanding of current IT project and software development life cycle
processes and methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and document an extensive variety of
scientific and technical processes
- Demonstrated ability to perform business analysis and identify and
document valid improvement opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in
writing within all levels of an organization. Candidate should be able to
demonstrate the ability to interact with technical and scientific personnel
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead software development projects
Required Special Equipment and/or Programs:
- Experience with software development tools and processes.
- Experience with bioinformatics desktop and online software.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Manages and lead IT related systems design, build and implementation |
