下周一就是一年一度的MATCH DAY公榜之日，总会几家欢乐几家愁。对于落榜的CMG一I
don't and won't do pray, but-----
我想说的是：
1。别丧气和颓废，和你一样命运的更多。立即准备马上将临的SCRAMBLE，要把CV，
PS，LOR等材料准备好，做成PDF文件放到电子信箱里，请一天假--包括配偶最好，保
证电话和传真、电脑完好备用；
2。最好是能有同学、朋友、尤其是在住院医生单位的给予帮忙，因为他们可能知道
有空位的信息更早，而且他们可以直接送材料给PD/CHAI，并添好话，增加被抓进去
的机率。我当初PGY-2，就几次见到这样的事，椅子跑来找我们问谁手里有“牌”可
打？那时刻，谁先出手，谁赢得机会。就这么简单。
3。如果能多人同时帮忙送信息和打电话传真比一个人一个个单位或一份份传真送要
快多了，那几个小时内，很可能你送都送不出去呢！
4。那个时刻，切记，没有什么挑挑捡拣的，别再想什么“好单位”“对CMG NICE”
单位这类荒唐念头了！能遇到被SCRAMBLE机会，基本是中乐透一样的！进门才是硬
道理！！！
5。如果是本市或临近城市单位要你去面试，二话不说，一个谢谢，赶紧揣了资料开
车去见PD/CHAIR！！！甚至，一旦知道本市单位有空缺，不管有否机会，打上门去，
都不惜一试--U HAVE NOTHING TO LOSS NOW！有过CMG同学就这样千里跑单骑得到机
会的，他的故事让我看了都自叹不如，绝没他那种勇气。但他做了，成功了！
6。汽车加满油，事先车检过，轮胎气足，GPS、车里放好瓶装水！备用手机电池和
充电器、手提电脑笔记本、多份CV、PS、圆珠笔、等材料、信用卡和现金、地图、
备用衣服等等，等等。。。。。。
这是战场，没有任何疏忽的地方，若有，你就无法也不配赢得战斗！

Ｖ上的卖点,哪怕是社区的义工，也比什么都没有要强。同时不要让自己的职业gap太长

Three most important factors that you think led you to success:
1. Strong LOR,
2. Research background helps IM application in those programs have Chinese
residents and care about fellowship positions. Tell the program that your
experience can help/give suggestion to other residents who are interested in
getting some research experience, this is what you can do for the program,
which other IMG(no research background) can't. Don't sell research low, be
proud of what you did and what you are doing.
Suggestion:
1. Apply early, don't wait for ECFMG certificate(I know a lot of people
mentioned this before), this is my bloody lesson, applied the end of Oct to
beginning of Nov, lost a lot of chance.But never too late.
2. Don't hesitate to write to PD(this might be controversial), just from my
own experience, I pre-matched into a program which I got the IV by writing
the PD a personalized email.
3. Request to start 1-2 months earlier in the program to prepare yourself
for the intern year. |

I am an ordinary person with ordinary score. My experience tells me that
match is like dating. Some programs like high score or research or fresh
graduates et, but another program tell me that they don’t value score that
much, they look at the candidate over all quality. This just like people who
are dating, some like handsome, some like good cooks, some like smarty
pants and some like overall quality. You need to find the best fit for
yourself. After I found the program is good fit for me. Then I tried to
improve myself as much as I can to match the program. This is my second year
match. When I went the first time, they told everybody that step 3 score is
important factor for their selection committee. I got a reasonable step 3
score on second year. Then I got matched.
Connection is important, but if you don’t match the program’s requirement
(like score, attempts or graduation year), connection doesn’t help.

下周一就是一年一度的MATCH DAY公榜之日，总会几家欢乐几家愁。对于落榜的CMG一I
don't and won't do pray, but-----
我想说的是：
1。别丧气和颓废，和你一样命运的更多。立即准备马上将临的SCRAMBLE，要把CV，
PS，LOR等材料准备好，做成PDF文件放到电子信箱里，请一天假--包括配偶最好，保
证电话和传真、电脑完好备用；
2。最好是能有同学、朋友、尤其是在住院医生单位的给予帮忙，因为他们可能知道
有空位的信息更早，而且他们可以直接送材料给PD/CHAI，并添好话，增加被抓进去
的机率。我当初PGY-2，就几次见到这样的事，椅子跑来找我们问谁手里有“牌”可
打？那时刻，谁先出手，谁赢得机会。就这么简单。
3。如果能多人同时帮忙送信息和打电话传真比一个人一个个单位或一份份传真送要
快多了，那几个小时内，很可能你送都送不出去呢！
4。那个时刻，切记，没有什么挑挑捡拣的，别再想什么“好单位”“对CMG NICE”
单位这类荒唐念头了！能遇到被SCRAMBLE机会，基本是中乐透一样的！进门才是硬
道理！！！
5。如果是本市或临近城市单位要你去面试，二话不说，一个谢谢，赶紧揣了资料开
车去见PD/CHAIR！！！甚至，一旦知道本市单位有空缺，不管有否机会，打上门去，
都不惜一试--U HAVE NOTHING TO LOSS NOW！有过CMG同学就这样千里跑单骑得到机
会的，他的故事让我看了都自叹不如，绝没他那种勇气。但他做了，成功了！
6。汽车加满油，事先车检过，轮胎气足，GPS、车里放好瓶装水！备用手机电池和
充电器、手提电脑笔记本、多份CV、PS、圆珠笔、等材料、信用卡和现金、地图、
备用衣服等等，等等。。。。。。
这是战场，没有任何疏忽的地方，若有，你就无法也不配赢得战斗！

真是非常高兴，我们这个老CMG 互助组今天都match了！比我拿prematch都高兴，真的。
It’s Such Amazing!
我们这个小组的background：
All failed without match last year.
Nobody has any 99 in any steps.
All are old CMGs, 我 95年毕业，在小组里是最年轻的。我们组还有90年的。
Very few IVs ，the most---6. (Another Canadian guy, with only 2 IV in
Pathology, Matched.) 我们面试数量加起来可能还没有某些网上的学友多。
Most of us without higher degree or research experience, （only one has PhD
in Europe）.
Most of us are Christian, 有一个是慕道友。
我们这个小组的经验：
我们互相鼓励，每个人得到面试，都会互相通报，互相庆祝，虽然得到的面试都很少。
我们认真准备面试问题，反复推敲，以致于到最后我们的回答大都是一样的，还好我们
没有共同的面试。Haha…..
每个人的面试日期，我们小组里的每个人都知道，大家都会提前给这一个人辅导， 祝
福她。
面试回来后，我们每个人都无私的分享面试经验，毫无保留，总结经验和教训。虽然我
们的面试甚少，但我们每个人的经验都不少，每个人到最后都好像参加了15，6 个面试。
我们之间没有讨论过一次 Plan B。每个人都做好了再来一年的准备，甚至 extern 都
联系好了。
每次Skype 后我们都会祷告！ （感谢主！我们都match 上了）

我的申请和面试。希望和我背景相似的后来者，在努力准备考试的同时不要忘记增加Ｃ
Ｖ上的卖点,哪怕是社区的义工，也比什么都没有要强。同时不要让自己的职业gap太长

hot specialty--as this CMG only applied this specialty, so, for sure into a
very very competitive specialty----even for AMGs!

We all have our down time, it's difficult, but it's doable, most of my
friends who came along this path with different background/score/graduation
year, finally matched.

Three most important factors that you think led you to success:
1. Strong LOR,
2. Research background helps IM application in those programs have Chinese
residents and care about fellowship positions. Tell the program that your
experience can help/give suggestion to other residents who are interested in
getting some research experience, this is what you can do for the program,
which other IMG(no research background) can't. Don't sell research low, be
proud of what you did and what you are doing.
Suggestion:
1. Apply early, don't wait for ECFMG certificate(I know a lot of people
mentioned this before), this is my bloody lesson, applied the end of Oct to
beginning of Nov, lost a lot of chance.But never too late.
2. Don't hesitate to write to PD(this might be controversial), just from my
own experience, I pre-matched into a program which I got the IV by writing
the PD a personalized email.
3. Request to start 1-2 months earlier in the program to prepare yourself
for the intern year. |

IV list是非常重要的参考信息。如果你担心隐私问题，可以考虑不写自己match上的
program 名字。另外拿到面试的日子也很有参考价值，因为每个program 每年都是那周
发面试的。

I am an ordinary person with ordinary score. My experience tells me that
match is like dating. Some programs like high score or research or fresh
graduates et, but another program tell me that they don’t value score that
much, they look at the candidate over all quality. This just like people who
are dating, some like handsome, some like good cooks, some like smarty
pants and some like overall quality. You need to find the best fit for
yourself. After I found the program is good fit for me. Then I tried to
improve myself as much as I can to match the program. This is my second year
match. When I went the first time, they told everybody that step 3 score is
important factor for their selection committee. I got a reasonable step 3
score on second year. Then I got matched.
Connection is important, but if you don’t match the program’s requirement
(like score, attempts or graduation year), connection doesn’t help.
