yf 发帖数: 272 | 1 Just a little bit sharing of my personal experience of Hem/Onc job hunting.
Hopefully it will be helpful to some of you. Remember it's my personal
experience so the information and/or tips may not fit your case.
There are three types of jobs: 1 Academic, 2. Private practice(solo practice
/small groups versus large/multidisciplinary group), 3. Hospital employed
positions.
Generally speaking, the market for Hem/Onc is not so good now. Especially
this year. With the reimbursement cut, subspecialties got hit. Hem/Onc used
to make big money on chemotherapy drugs, but this has been changing since 10
years ago and is getting worse with Obama care. So the private groups are
unstable and shrinking. More and more groups are sold to hospitals. Hospital
employed positions are increasing on the market. Academic positions are not
too may and are very hard to get.
First things first: Resume
1. Better to prepare two resumes, one for academic jobs, one for private/
hospital employed positions. I was lazy initially and had just one resume.
And that was a mistake. The emphasis of resume for academic job should be on
the clinical or basic research, and the emphasis of resume for private job
should be on patient care.
2. Try to make your resume concise and clear. Better not exceed two pages.
People are very impatient. Nobody will read a long resume.
3. Update your resume from time to time.
4. If possible, have somebody(attendings and co-fellows) to revise your
resume. | l**s 发帖数: 53 | | r*********s 发帖数: 1027 | 3 Very helpful!
