In addition to the other comments here about suspicions of why the family
needs so much money, I would like to add several points. At press conference
, the University created a way for even more money to be raised for the
family through the yellow ribbon campaign. The University knows of the
Gofundme campaign. Not sure if they know the boyfriend is trying to raise
money in China. Also, the boyfriend has a local (in America) Chinese church
that he is asking to contact Chinese families in America statewide, even
Chicago (3 hours away) to donate money to him, but not through Gofundme. If
you add up all four of these current revenue streams that is a huge amount
of money with the church donations going unreported. Many average families
never have that much money in their life. I believe these discussions are
fair and balanced to bring up issues and concerns as multiple cases exist in
the world where people take advantage despite what they say. And the
Gofundme campaign now says that the family would have been supported by
Yingying. Maybe. But not on an enormous salary! Yes, the parents and brother
are capable of working. The boyfriend especially. If the boyfriend is an
academic and believes so much in the family and Yingying, why doesn't he get
a job and support them? Why does he need $500,000 and more with no end in
sight? Now if the family was actively searching for their daughter, and
using the money for that, it would be different. The boyfriend is not
interested in searching, just busy raising money. The parents would search
but the boyfriend says no. There are two-three Americans who search every
day at their own expense but they search without the family. The boyfriend
mentioned at the press conference that he was raising money to search for
Yingying AFTER the court trial was completely done. That could be a year
from now. Why not try to find your girlfriend now? Isn't that why you are
here? Search now. But sitting and managing how many ways to get free donated
money without work seems to be the goal. As soon as the Aunt caused trouble
with requesting manufacturer coupons for formula and 'yelling' at
detractors online, the boyfriend had her on the first flight back to China.
The local Chinese community gives everything to the boyfriend and parents...
elaborate meals every day, furniture, transportation...all for free. Is all
of this assistance creating the expectation for more in the boyfriend (he is
their acting leader being bilingual and smart) and more is never good
enough? If the boyfriend has changed the title of the Gofundme once or twice
to now "family emergency fund", there become two questions to discuss for
an informed decision whether to contribute here at Gofundme: Number one,
what is the definition of emergency? Emergency money in America would be to
have $20,000 in reserves--and that is on the very high side. In China, it is
less. And the boyfriend/family has no needs (other than finding their
beloved daughter) as they are handed everything material. Number two, what
is not to prevent the boyfriend from changing this Gofundme title in the
future for 'stay in America until the remains are found'. Does his
girlfriend's disappearance make him different than the millions of humans
who have lost loved ones who must go back to work? Just a quick look on
Gofundme-- there are many people asking for small donations ($2,000) to help
them with a burial, or education not over $500,000 (plus non-Gofundme
donation-streams). My final point to the boyfriend: if so many generous
people give of their time, money and material goods to you, why are you not
out looking in abandoned buildings, under bushes, in woods and more? And if
that type of search is beneath you, or you believe Yingying is dead and not
to be found, why don't you return to China to work? At some point, people
will grow weary of working to make your existence more special than theirs.
