The leaders of North Korea and South Korea pledged on Friday to end their
decadeslong war and work toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Some right-leaning US politicians, experts on international relations,
and people who advocate Korean unification are saying US President Donald
Trump deserves the credit for the talks.
A few are even saying Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize.
As North Korea and South Korea pledged to end hostilities and work toward
denuclearization, some people have suggested US President Donald Trump
should win the Nobel Peace Prize.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in
pledged in a historic summit on Friday to end the Korean War — which has
technically been ongoing since 1950 because it ended in a truce rather than
a peace treaty — and to work toward a "complete" denuclearization of the
Korean Peninsula.
Many people think the credit should go to Trump — so much so that he should
win the next Nobel Peace Prize.
North Korea increased its nuclear provocations last year — as Trump
threatened "fire and fury" in retaliation— but has appeared to step back
this year. | h****e 发帖数: 1 | 2 In recent days, as South Korean President Moon Jae-in has held a historic
meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, there's apparently a movement
bubbling up in support of President Donald Trump winning the Nobel Peace
Prize. And if he did, it would add his name to a long list of recipients,
including former President Barack Obama.
As CNN detailed this week, South Korean foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha has
credited the American president with fostering the environment that allowed
the historic meeting to take place. She told journalist Christiane Amanpour
that "clearly, credit goes to President Trump," and claimed he had "been
determined to come to grips with this from day one."
South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham has vocally suggested that if a peace
agreement is reached between North and South Korea, Trump should be the
recipient of the world's foremost peace prize.
"It wouldn’t have happened without Trump. It may not happened, but it’s
the biggest change since the end of the hostilities,” Graham reportedly
told Fox News. “What happened? Donald Trump convinced North Korea and China
he was serious about bringing about change.”
“We’re not there yet, but if this happens, President Trump deserves the
Nobel Peace Prize," Graham concluded. | h****e 发帖数: 1 | 3 OPINION: The Nobel Committee has something of a fetish for awarding the
Peace Prize to centre-left American politicians, regardless of merit. At
least former US president Jimmy Carter had involved himself in decades of
peace initiatives, however futile most proved to be, when he received the
prize in 2002. Former US vice-president Al Gore, on the other hand, won the
prize for his celebrity endorsement of climate change doom-mongering.
In Barack Obama's case in 2009, the rationale was weaker still: he had not
even been in office a year and had achieved virtually nothing for the cause
of peace during that time. But he was a symbol of hope to centre-left types
around the world, who could not yet imagine the anarchy he would bring to
Libya or the ceaseless wars he would wage with drones.

This year's prize should go to an American leader who has earned it, for
once: Donald Trump. But will the Nobel Committee free itself from its
ideological straitjacket to give it to him? President Trump is everything
that Obama was not. He is a man of the right, not the left. He is brash and
intensely disliked by much of world opinion, especially elite opinion. Obama
had a soft touch and was loved almost as greatly as Trump is despised. Yet
the only thing that should matter is what Trump has achieved, in contrast to
what Obama did not.

If President Trump succeeds in negotiating an end to North Korean dictator
Kim Jong-un's nuclear provocations, he will have defused the most dangerous
crisis the world faces at present. There is even a chance that Trump will
help bring a non-violent conclusion to a war that has officially lasted 67
years. The North and South never came to a formal peace agreement in the
Korean War and to this day have only an armistice to underwrite the
ceasefire. Yet now Seoul and Pyongyang have begun moving toward treaty talks
as part of the wider effort to resolve the nuclear impasse, with the South'
s President Moon Jae-in meeting Kim for a historic summit on Friday.
A US president first won the Peace Prize in 1906, when Theodore Roosevelt
received it for brokering peace in the Russo-Japanese War. What Trump is
poised to accomplish on the Korean peninsula would be a far greater triumph
of diplomacy. That will be so even if the result is something less than what
the Trump administration has called for in its maximal demands: the
denuclearisation of North Korea. Kim is unlikely to give up his weapons in
any scenario, but world peace will be well served if he simply stops further
nuclear and ballistic tests and agrees to a non-proliferation framework. | h****e 发帖数: 1 | 4 Sen. Lindsey Graham: President Trump deserves Nobel Peace Prize

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
As the world watches the peace talks between North Korea and South Korea
with renewed interest, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham believes one man
deserves all the credit -- and a coveted award to boot.
Graham said President Donald Trump is deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize
assuming peace talks between the nations come up with a plan to denuclearize
the north and lead to lasting cooperation.
"Donald Trump convinced North Korea and China he was serious about bringing
about change," Graham said in a tweet. "We're not there yet, but if this
happens, President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize."
The once-dueling Korean nations have been engaged in serious peace talks for
the first time in decades. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean
president Moon Jae-in shook hands for the first time ever Friday. | a******9 发帖数: 20431 | 5 左臂奖不会发给大右派的
