If you want to start an instant debate, go into any sports bar on a college
football Saturday and ask who is the greatest college football team of all
time. You'll get all sorts of answers and rationales for why people pick who
they pick, but the bottom line is there have been some great teams over the
years. That being said, here are College Football Insider Matt Murschel's
top 10 college football teams.
Nebraska (1995)
For total dominance, it's hard to argue against the '95 Cornhuskers. The
team seemed to score at will, averaging 50 points per game led by
quarterback Tommie Frazier. The defense was as dominating as any in history,
holding opponents to 14.5 points per game. The team defeated Florida 62-24
in the Fiesta Bowl to finish the season undefeated and earn back-to-back
national championships.
Miami (2001)
For pure talent, the 2001 Hurricanes were one of the most loaded teams in
college football history. Led by quarterback Ken Dorsey and running back
Clinton Portis, Miami's offense rolled through the season averaging close to
43 points per game. The defense was just as formidable led by safety Ed
Reed and corner Phillip Buchanon, allowing 9.75 points per game including
three shutouts. The team captured the national championship with a 37-14
victory over Nebraska in the Rose Bowl.

USC (1972)
Just how good were the '72 Trojans? Good enough that when asked if USC was
the best team in the nation following a 44-3 loss, Washington State Coach
Jim Sweeney once said, "USC's not the No. 1 team in the country. The Miami
Dolphins are better." USC rolled through its schedule on its way to an
undefeated season capped off by a 42-17 victory over Ohio State in the Rose
Bowl, earning Coach John McKay a national championship. The team finished
the season a unanimous No. 1 in both coaches and media polls, a first for
college football.
Nebraska (1971)
Huskers fans might argue that the '71 team was better than the 1995 team and
it would be hard to disagree. Bob Devaney's bunch was coming off of a
national championship season and didn't miss a beat, defeating opponents by
an average of 24 points or more 12 times. Johnny Rodgers did it all for
Nebraska, returning kicks and punts, on his way to earning the Heisman
Trophy. The defense was dominant, holding teams to less than 9 points per
game. Nebraska's 35-31 victory over No. 2 Oklahoma has been dubbed the Game
of the Century.
Army (1945)
The combination of Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis – Mr. Inside and Mr.
Outside – was too much for any team to handle in 1945. The duo claimed the
Heisman Trophy in consecutive seasons with Blanchard winning it in '45. The
Cadets dominated on both ends of the field, scoring 412 points while holding
opponents to 46 points all season. Army went undefeated and its win over
rival Navy helped secure a national championship.
Florida State (1999)
In 1999, Florida State did something no other team had ever done in NCAA
history: go wire-to-wire being continuously ranked No. 1. The Seminoles did
it behind quarterback Chris Weinke, who threw for 3,103 yards and 25
touchdowns and star receiver Peter Warrick. Weinke's performance earned him
the Heisman Trophy and made him a legend in Tallahassee. The team defeated
No. 2 Virginia Tech, 46-29 in the Sugar Bowl to win the national
championship.
Oklahoma (1956)
When you are in the middle of a 47-game winning streak, it's hard to argue
which team is your best, but Bud Wilkinson's '56 team had one of the most
dominating defenses in college football history. The Sooners didn't give up
their first points until Week 4 and finished the season with six shutouts.
The offense, led by quarterback Jim Harris and running back Tommy McDonald,
averaged 47 points per game. Both McDonald, and lineman Jerry Tubbs finished
third and fourth respectfully in the Heisman Trophy voting that season.
Notre Dame (1947)
Notre Dame has had its share of great teams as well – 1919, 1930, 1988 –
however the '47 team was one of its best. Maybe that's because in the three-
year stretch from 1946 to 1949, the Fighting Irish won three national
championships and had two Heisman Trophy winners. Coach Frank Leahy led this
team to an undefeated 9-0 record with Johnny Lujack at quarterback. The
Pennsylvania native completed 56 percent of his passes for 777 yards,
earning the Heisman Trophy and a share of the national championship as well.
Florida (1996)
There's no denying that the state of Florida has produced some of college
football's greatest teams. In 1996, coach Steve Spurrier led the Gators to
the national championship despite losing a game to Florida State in the
final week of the season. Florida went on to win the SEC Championship and
then the national championship in a rematch against the Seminoles thanks in
part to quarterback Danny Wuerffel, whose performance earned him a spot next
to his coach as Heisman Trophy winner.
Alabama (1992)
If defense wins championships, then look no further than the '92 team which
allowed 9.2 points per game during an undefeated season under coach Gene
Stallings. The Tide rolled through most of the regular season, winning the
SEC Championship against Florida. However, it was a matchup with Miami that
earned this team a spot in greatness. As underdogs, Alabama knocked off the
No. 1 Hurricanes in impressive fashion, 34-13, in the Sugar Bowl. The
victory helped secure the team a national championship and legendary status. | m********t 发帖数: 9426 | 2 no michigan?
