LEGOLAND California – The older kids may not be thrilled, but younger
children are always absolutely delighted at LEGOLAND during Halloween. Every
Saturday in October, kids under 12 can participate in costume contests and
trick-or-treating, and the theme park’s Halloween decor is perfect for them
. Fittingly called the “Brick or Treat” party, LEGOLAND is well worth the
visit even for theme-park-averse parents. Stay late for the Spirits of Brick
or Treat Light Show.
Del Mar Fairgrounds’ Scream Zone – Running from late September to the last
day of October, the Del Mar Fairgrounds goes all out to celebrate Halloween
. The midway rides are remade with Halloween decor, and the Haunted hayride
is fine for children of all ages. Easily-spooked kids may want to pass on
the 25-room House of Horror, but older kids who enjoy scary surprises love
it. The Scream Zone’s 3-D maze is also a lot of fun for kids over the age
of 6.
The Homewood Suites by Hilton San Diego-Del Mar is in a top-notch location
for a family trip. Located right in Torrey Hills, it’s away from the hubbub
of downtown San Diego while offering a quick drive to LEGOLAND and Del Mar
Fairgrounds. As with all Homewood Suites, there is a complimentary breakfast
, full kitchen and free Internet.
Disneyland – Families with young kids cannot miss Disneyland, Halloween or not. The theme park really pulls out all the stops for Halloween with huge annual events like Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat party. It’s really fun for children to dress up along with their favorite Disney characters. The Disney Villains make menacing appearances as well, but not TOO menacing. (Young children should feel thrilled, not scared after all.) The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror can frighten younger kids, though.
