If you are not filthy rich, $50K income is not that much different from $200,000 income. Social status decides how higher in politics ladder or in a company ladder a group can achieve.
Of course, economic interest may conflict with political interest. It is you to decide which one is more vital.

By the way, Asiain is not a minor in US political definition. I know AA will
not benefit asian going to school. But it will benefit asian going to get a
government job and jobs having public funding. Not every asian has MD PhD
degree. In fact most asian do not have an advanced degree.
