TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida A&M University students are upset over Gov
. Rick Scott's call to suspend FAMU's president amid multiple investigations
into the death of a marching band member.
Hundreds of students gathered at the governor's mansion in Tallahassee late
Thursday night and Scott came outside and talked with them, using a bullhorn.
Scott has said he does not know if FAMU President James Ammons has done
anything wrong. But he suggested that Ammons step aside to assure people the
university is fully cooperating.
Scott asked state law enforcement to assist in the investigation of the
death of drum major Robert Champion. Champion died following a football game
in an incident that police say involved hazing. Florida officials said this
week that probe led to them discovering "financial irregularities" with the
band's finances.
