Manhattan, New York: On August 14, 2009, four men entered the store of 72
year old Charles Augusto, Jr. The men brandished guns and demanded money.
After watching one of the criminals hit one of his employees in the head
with a gun, Augusto pulled out his shotgun and fired three quick shots
hitting all of the culprits. One died almost instantly, another died a short
time later.
Prosecutors seemed to acknowledge that Augusto acted in self-defense, but
were reportedly considering a misdemeanor weapons charge against him.
