immigration executive order that protects up to 4.1 million people from
deportation.
The measure narrowly passed with a vote of 219 - 197. Seven Republicans
voted against the bill and three Democrats voted for it.
"The president thumbed his nose at the American people with his actions on
immigration. The House will make clear today that we are rejecting his
unilateral actions," House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday.
With Democrats still in control of the Senate until January, the measure
will die in the Upper Chamber as Democratic leadership, which supports the
president's executive action, has no intention of bringing it up for a vote.
Even though it won't reach his desk, President Obama issued a veto threat. |
