Each year, only a couple of people can win Nobel Prize in one discipline
while hundreds in the field of EE and CS are elected as IEEE fellows.

28 | 7 It is a very subjective judgement whether becoming an IEEE fellow is a big
deal or not.
No point in arguing that.
But some facts I do know are:
1) MILLIONS of other people in the field of EE and CS have not become IEEE
fellows yet, including many professors in top US EE/CS departments and most
likely yourself.
2) Maybe you are doing much better than these five people, but showing your
respect to other people's achievements will not necessarily make yourself
look bad, instead it will earn yours

To be qualified as an IEEE fellow or ACM fellow, you have to be a member for
some years. This explains why some top EE/CS professors are neither an ACM
fellow nor IEEE fellow since they just do not bother to be a member.
I am nobody and even not as good as you.

This has nothing to do with if I respect them or not. I am just tired of
seeing that our USTC fellows always like to post these kind of things
everywhere.
I only respect those people who make a big contribution to the society n

Not only that, you have also been nominated by others. If
you are superb but none loves you because you are mean to all of them,
none would nominate you and you have no chance. Once nominated, the bar is
high, but not that high.
Just like school ranking, the difference between Nobel and society
fellow is not linear, but exponential.
I so agree with you, so fed up by these posts.

negative factor。

How you think of it is up to you. However, you may consider this as
inspiration. USTC needs more like them. Some university are counting their
glory achievements such as government leaders, regional emperors or
enormorous
campus donations or constructions. Compared with them, we are still clean.
