Stocks to watch Wednesday: Dell, A&F
After the Tuesday close, Dell /quotes/zigman/27952/quotes/nls/dell DELL -7.
91% posted sharply higher profit that beat analyst expectations, but shares
were knocked down about 6% in after-hours action when the company cut its
full-year sales forecast. Read more on Dell earnings.
Abercrombie /quotes/zigman/167627/quotes/nls/anf ANF +0.61% is slated to
report its second-quarter results before the opening bell Wednesday. The
apparel retailer is expected to earn 29 cents a share on revenue of $916.8
million, according to the average estimate of analysts polled by FactSet
Research. Same-store sales, those at outlets open at least a year, are
expected to rise 9%.
Deere /quotes/zigman/224269/quotes/nls/de DE -1.75% will roll out its
fiscal third-quarter numbers before the start of trading. The heavy
equipment maker is expected to earn $1.66 a share on revenue of $7.45
billion.
Also up is Staples /quotes/zigman/78299/quotes/nls/spls SPLS -0.49% and it
is set to record a second-quarter profit of 20 cents a share on revenue of $
5.64 billion, if Wall Street’s best guess is on the mark. Same-store sales
are seen slipping 0.1%.

fiscal third-quarter net income that came up shy of expectations and said
that “growing uncertainty about the global economy could cause our
customers to become more cautious in the short term and that could reduce

ANF slumped 6.3% after the company said it expects continued gross margin
decline in the rest of the year because of rising cost pressures. It said it
has less visibility on the magnitude of the margin drop because it doesn't
know how consumers would respond to rising prices while the global
macroeconomic picture and exchange rate volatility also remain wild cards.
