Herbert Passin, a distinguished scholar of Japan, who was
chairman of Columbia University's sociology department and
taught at its East Asian Institute, died on Feb. 26 in New
York. He was 86.
The cause of death was heart disease, according to his
stepson, Scott Latham.
Professor Passin was also a consultant on United
States-Japanese issues to two Japanese prime ministers,
Yasuhiro Nakasone and Noboru Takeshita, as well as |

google scholar包括的文献来源比较多，比如中文文献、专利、proceeding、thesis之
类。
只算文章的话，我推荐Web of Knowledge All Databases. |

很简单，就是分了几个小项，每一项让报一个数，不需要任何描述和定性的信息。
我的问题是：我有两篇peer-reviewed journal articles, 2012下半年和年底被通知
accepted, 但实际的publish time是2013（现在还在in press和proof editing）阶段
。不知道这种情况是应该算成2012的"professional publications"还是2012的“
unpublished professional manuscripts written"。

立申请经费。在网上看了一下，属于 non-tenure-track faculty，其实就是高级博士
后，依赖于教授的 soft money。请问：如果能够自己申到经费，这样的位子转成
tenure-track faculty 的机会是不是还是很小？谢谢大家！ |

project，我觉得倒也没什么。毕竟牛组的经历对找faculty有帮助。但是如果连生活费

2.孩子申请学校，妈妈出来陪读
哪一种更可行？考虑签证，费用等问题。。

升tenure, 多少可以升full professor? |

可以死去了。
一般好的数学，即使没有多少文章引用，总会有书和专著引用，还有博士论文引用吧。
google
scholar 已经包括这些方面的引用，看看庞家来猜想有好几本专著解释。 |

06年7月来美，一直J1(Research Scholar)，在MA。
08年Federal和State都扣了。
关于State，比较有把握，去年就属于Resident，引用treaty就可以全退，今年估计问
题不大。
关于Federal，自己研究过相关的form & publication，感觉伸缩性还是挺大的。
主要问题是：1040NR-EZ or 1040-EZ or 1040?
按"Substantial Presence Test"属于Resident，但Publication 519中还有这个解释，
"In some circumstances you may still be considered a nonresident alien under
