driver, until lately I am starting to master them.
without question, fairway woods are much easier to get the ball up to the
air, compared to the long iron. However, due to the different looking of
fairway woods face from irons, it's not easy to hit them well consistently.

Question: i didnt see much difference between the fairway grass and near
fairway grass, why would you keep on fairway instead of hit further?

thanks for the sweeping tip.
for me, it is very hard to keep the consistence for 3 wood, even worse than
my driver, while normally driver would have a tee. i guess only use fairway
woods on fairway then.
between 7iron+7iron and 3wood+pitching, i always tend to use later
combination, but price is heavy.
how you make choice between long iron and fairway woods, given now you are
starting to master fairway woods?

before i bought my fairway woods, i was told that fairway woods is easier to
hit compare to driver.
but laterly, i watch some clips, some pro all said they kinda like driver
better. example: fred couple, tim clark, and john daly
my own case is that i feel driver is more consistent than fairway woods. and
if there is time i can either hit a driver or a fairway woods, i would
definitely go with driver.
what about you guys? |

发帖数: 904 | 7 it all depends on the courses you play. many resorts courses, like those in
florida, cut its rough to only about 2-3 inches. on these courses, most of
the time hitting out of the rough is not difficult, you only compromise a
little bit control by not being able to predict the spin and impact as well
as hitting from fairways.
on some other courses where the rough is real rough, i.e, grass of 6 inches
or longer, if you miss the fairway by only a couple of yards, you can be in
a lot of trouble. if |

6号hybrid简直是我的最喜欢的球杆， 简直覆盖我150码顶风，到200码顺风。多少次
（当然了，也没多少次），我把球在找个距离上成功的送到果岭上不说，而且非常靠近
球洞。
Jimy Clay的第18洞， scorecard显示的440码狗腿右的球洞，在加上2个鬼门关似的大
树，就在200码到果岭距离处，在我记忆中我似乎从来没par过，用这6号hybrid，我前
不久第一次par了该洞。
还有那些170码－190码的3杆洞，简直信心爆棚。

and bought one
called tour edge, the store staff touted it as the fastest longest fairway
i asked the guy and let me do a test, the launch monitor did show amazing
results
108.4m clubhead spd, and 152mph ball spd, i cut the ball, launch only 9*.
otherwise would get 160mph ball spd out of that thing

NOW. Nice two-bedroom apartment with one bath; all appliances are included (
dishwasher, microwave, oven with stove, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer,
garbage disposal). In the second bedroom, there is a vanity (mirror and sink
) with storage underneath. My roommate and I have found this feature of the
apartment to be very convenient when getting ready in the morning with only
one bathroom.

i am not against the fairway wood and driver. personally, i don't have
experience on them.
i would just recommend to find some big-brand woods with cheap price, like

#1, the easiest opening hole, 331 par4, wide open fairway, Other than first
hole jitter, not much to worry. Drive as far as you can, if you are not
afraid of half/three-quater wedge shot. Otherwise, leave yourself 100 for
approaching.
#2, downhill 147 par3, straight forward, pick the right club for your
distance, the hole played as 5-10 yards short (due to the downhill) depends
on the wind.

Played that course 4 times, first 3 times from blue 378 yards, last time
from Black 397 yards
First time, I was hitting to the right, on fairway, 140 to the green, right
in front of green, there was a dry creek, An oak tree on the side of dry
creek. Luckily, my ball go high enough over the tree, and landed on the
green, the back of the green since I was trying to avoid the dry creek. But
the pin was in the front, and it is a two tiers green, 3-putt, bogey.

i think it is the post of the day.
the lie is in rough, and to use fairway woods to hack it out is not easy for
anyone.
If the only problem for your fairway woods is from rough, I would say, it is
not a problem.
And it is not because your fairway woods are bad. rather, you should not use
fairway woods at the first place.
for fairway woods, as long as you can hit is on flat section of fairway,
that is good enough. |

Man, it is brutal. The fairway is not even, not straight,
both sides of the fairway are waste bunker or sandbunker.
The fairway is in perfect condition, but I never on the
fairway. I hit the ball from one side of the fairway to the
other side. Except the green is a little easier, I think it
is much difficult than the open course. |

i have trouble with my fairway woods laterly. my driver is good laterly, and
my hybrid is my best club. i thought fairway woods would be in between them
, but somehow, to me, fairway woods is a whole new club, and a whole new
swing for me.
i will try this skipping thing tonight to see how it feel.

If you watched his game on TV, you will know that 3/14 fairway
hit is misleading. Some of them were in the first cut of rough,
which is virtually as easy as fairway.
And as tiger always said, he missed to the
correct side of the fairway most of the time,
which makes it easy to save par at least,
or even give him good chances for birdies.
Actually, he only gave him real trouble at two holes that day,
per Tiger's comments during the press conference afterwards,

first, he is just too aggresive when using his driver. I never saw he tried to
sslow down a little bit when he makes his driver shot. as long as he wants to
, i guess the fairway hit data will be better.
somewhere i agree with you, the worst year for him, in 2003, his averaged
fairway hit is about 33% something like that. it seems he got the similar data
at the Tour championship.
so the fairway hit could be an indication.

70% fairway hit ( 一般是14个fairway, 14*70% = 9.8个） - 这个有谱
70% g.i. r (18个g.i.r的70%是12.5 -） 这个不太容易，除非我将球场的长度定在
6800码之下
80% putts (以36个putts来算， 那是28.8）
如果把后2项综合起来考虑，并且逐洞的最差成绩是bogye, 对一个par72的球场，我的
平均成绩将是在73 - 74, 似乎就是我现在的最好水平。
如果只是半场的话，那将是4.9/7个fairway, 6.3/9个green, 14.4/18个 putts, 这样
半场成绩该是+0.8，或者36.8， 这个不容易，除非我之前有10-20分钟热身。 |

to me, driver is just to put the ball on the fairway, which gives you a lot
of chance to miss, in general, fairway are much wider than green.
with your excellent control from 3wood, you would easily break 80, even with
not-so-accurate-driver. since you can always tee with 3wood when the
fairway is narrow.
if you change the expection from your driver, you would find tons of drivers
suit you need.

you almost summarized my last round.
played at boundry oak at walnut creek on labor day.
last time i played with voyiger, 6/7 fairway hit on supposely more difficult
back9. i was saying that course is very easy, and wide open fairways. but
it was not the case on labor day, the fairway is still wide open, but i just
cant find them. tree-hit after tree-hit, one of them i have to punch it out
with hybrid, and play hybrid like a putter.
